Sample Story

Tamil Nadu Geography · Classes 6–8

Kaveri: Four Key Stops

Subject

Textbook concept: The Kaveri originates at Talakaveri in Karnataka and flows through Tamil Nadu to the Bay of Bengal.

Story

Imagine Kaveri as a courier on a memorable journey. She begins at Talakaveri among the coffee estates of Karnataka—not Tamil Nadu. At Hogenakkal, she tumbles over rocky ledges. Near Mettur, a guardian holds back her waters: the Mettur Dam, also known as Stanley Reservoir. After Tiruchirappalli, the river branches into waterways including the Vennaru and Kollidam, nourishing the delta's vast paddy fields.

Memory Cue

Remember the sequence: Talakaveri (source) → Hogenakkal (falls) → Mettur (dam) → Vennaru/Kollidam (delta waterways). Use the initials T–H–M–V to rehearse the route.

Question

Where does the Kaveri originate?

Choose an answer.

Answer: Talakaveri — in Karnataka's Kodagu district.

This is a sample question. More topic-wise practice sets will be added to the Lessons page.
